How Did Taylor Lautner Get Ripped
How Taylor Lautner get ripped? It’s actually quite simple: he followed a strict workout plan and stuck to a healthy diet.
The second Twilight movie was going to see Taylor replaced with another actor unless he could bulk up enough. Taylor only had 9 short months to add muscle before they began filming the second movie. In the end, Taylor Lautner was able to put on 30 pounds of muscle for ‘Twilight: New Moon’ and got that ‘Ripped’ look.
When asked in interviews about his journey from scrawny to ripped, Taylor claimed that working out was easy. It was eating correctly that he found hard. Taylor’s trainer had him eating a good-sized meal every 2 hours during his training schedule. For example, he would have 6 egg whites, bacon and toast for breakfast.
Jordan Yuam – Taylors Personal Trainer
As you may know Taylor had Jordan Yaum as his personal trainer. Jordan explained that this diet was specifically designed for Taylor. It was a diet only for ‘hardgainers’ or skinny guys that had trouble putting on weight, the diet is not for losing fat.
During an interval for ‘Mens Health Magazine’ Jordan went through some of Taylor’s workout routines. The following is a summary of what he said in that interview.
Pushing Yourself To Your limits
If you want to get big and strong you need your body to get used to big loads. Yuam says that he had Taylor get used to a heavier weight than he was used to, stacking a bar with 40% more of Lautner’s normal 10 lift set to get his muscles used to bigger weight. For example if you can lift 12 pounds 10 times then use 170 pounds. You need somebody to do these workouts with you because you will only be lowering the weight while they help you lift them. Your spotter must be strong enough to be able to lift the 170 pound weight back up to the rack by himself, as you should not assist beyond the lower half of the lift. Adding all this extra weight helps your muscles learn the new weight and adjust to it before you are ready to start lifting such a load. It is very hard for your muscles to do this so keep the reps low, around 5, while only doing 3 sets every second week.
Adjust Your Volume
It isn’t always the right approach to just go with heavy weights. To maximize gains, Lautner regularly varies reps and the amount of weight he lifts. You really need to do these variations if you want to have a truly balanced-looking body. The more your muscles are forced to adapt to a new routine, the more they grow. For example change up your normal habit that consists of 3 sets of 8-10 reps by reducing the weight and switching up to 4 sets of 12-15 reps instead. The journal of Strength and Conditioning Research determined that men can increase their bench strength by as much as 28% and their leg-press strength by as much as 43% just by varying their rep counts and changing up the muscle groups they worked on.
Taylor Lautner’s muscle definition comes from a phenomenon where his skin is shrink wrapped over his muscles.
